Infant mortality in this country is largely overlooked, seen as a counterpart to poverty, and dismissed in the category of things we wish we could do something about but don’t know (or care) enough to act upon.
As women, we need to remember how much this affects us and stick up for one another.

I think it is really important for folks to realize that infant mortality is a American issue – not just something that impacts developing countries. We have serious issues to address when it comes to infant mortality here in the states, and raising the issue demonstrates how vital MCH programs are nationwide. I think that raising awareness is key to getting support for programs like Healthy Start and the Title V Maternal and Child Health Block Grant that address this and many other MCH issues.

I think you make a good point….you don’t have to be pregnant/or a parent to empathize and use your unique skills to promote this cause.

Infant mortality is a very real issue in the United States that is frequently overshadowed in the media (particularly regarding the racial divide). As a nation, we have some of the most advanced prenatal care available but we need to make sure that everyone has access to it.

It is important to increase awareness of infant mortality, especially in the US. We often don’t think about how much it takes to help a baby live his/her first year healthy and strong. That first year is so crucial for the parents and the baby, especially when its the first child. Babies grow and change so much in the first year and are so susceptible to their environment. We have to celebrate a healthy birth and every moment thereafter of that precious life!
